Future of gaming lounges, dens, and parlors.

It is the year 2017, the first-ever Tekken 7 tournament held by Tekken-Two-Five-Four and Ace Pro Gaming. Mickey has just won his first-ever organized tournament, Davy came 2nd place while Solomon “Shoryuken” finished third.

This tournament was held in a place common to many people especially the youth, situated in Nairobi’s Central Business District area is a gaming lounge called Tric Gaming Café.

Walk into Commonwealth Tower, go to the sixth floor and witness an experience a normal gaming lobby with 55inch screens and play station consoles. On the side, you will get a snack corner that serves light snacks and drinks. Tric Gaming has continued to hold a huge number of visitors daily playing casually.

Leave Tric Gaming then head to Kenya Cinema and you will be welcomed at Score Gaming lounge that also houses some of the best and up and coming FIFA players in the regions. The gaming lounges have been in existence with a model that heavily focused on casual play only.

What’s Next?

Gaming lounges are slowly positioning themselves as performing centers and gyms for Esport players in Kenya. They have the right model to steer, grow and sign a lot of players from various backgrounds. These lounges have the right revenue and business model to sign players that would be competing in various tournaments and leagues across the nation. Let us take a look at Horizon Gaming which sent in a team to compete during the inaugural inter-University competition held during the first quarter of this year.

In any normal sports, performance centers and local gyms are key to the growth of a competitive edge. The esports landscape in Kenya holds a powerful resource from these great gaming lounges.

As we continue to grow and develop our local leagues and series, we hope to see players competitiveness grow and develop further.

Savannah FGC is set to bring both the Tekken and Mortal Kombat communities in Kenya together.

The Fighting Game Community in Kenya will see a new circuit set to unite both Mortal Kombat 11 and Tekken 7 during next year’s schedule.

Dubbed as the Savannah FGC Circuit, the series of tournaments will see an eight-month Circuit played over 6 regular monthly qualifiers and a final tournament held in a date to be communicated.

The fighting game community in Kenya is strong and in need of serious organization and we believe that the Savannah FGC Circuit will further grow and develop the community better.

Having gone for three seasons, the Tekken 254 Circuit has not only shown growth of Esports in Kenya and the wider Eastern African region but also developed competitiveness in our players. The Tekken254 Community boasts of a group that can be a force in the African region. This was seen during the CapeTown Showdown where Simba Ultimate player DarkTempest lifted the Kenyan flag high by finishing third place.

The Tekken254 Circuit will have both divisions (Premier-Challenger) in the previously used format united to form one huge league during the 2020 schedule. The addition of Mortal Kombat 11 as a part of the Savanna FGC seeks to place Kenya as a highly competitive region, especially in the Fighting Game scene.

Esports Organizations, Tekken254 Circuit

The Tekken254 Circuit gears up for its fourth instalment set to kick off in January next year. The circuit, running for the past two years has seen growth in participating numbers, game knowledge and most especially the community bond. The Circuit moves into its 2020 schedule with more Esports Organizations signing players that compete in the Circuit.

Esports Organizations

Many ask, what are Esports Organizations? Well, they are easily understood as teams. These are a group of likeminded persons who band up to form a team that specializes in one or multiple title games.

Just as in any traditional sports, Esports are also inviting both professional and semi-pro players to compete in various leagues, series and circuit in the case of Kenya. These Organizations sign players to represent them in many tournaments organized in the region.

The Tekken254 Circuit in its current will now see up to seven organizations representing close to 15 players heading into season four. The representations by these Organizations are just but a start to help different Tekken enthusiasts to compete in the upcoming circuit. In due time, when these organizations set a great model for raising revenue, the players will be able to receive salaries or wages based on their contracts.

Below are some of Esports Organizations set to feature in the upcoming Tekken254 Circuit season four.

  1. XiT Woundz (QueenArrow)
  2. AlphaPlay (Mickey)
  3. MeTa Clan (Lord Vega & Furious Monkey)
  4. T-Vets (Chuma Mzee, Battousai, Poker Face, and Nick Fury)
  5. Watchmen (DVK & Priest)
  6. Rampage Corps (Shoryuken)
  7. Simba Ultimate (DarkTempest)

Esports Organizations will not only help stabilize the Circuit through the representation of various players helping them enter given tournaments and the Circuit but will further professionalize the industry easily.

Just as in the e-Lig University Series, the competition saw six Organizations franchised on the University they came from. Six Universities competed in the inaugural trial season at the beginning of the year and are set to go for a showdown soon. Franchising Esports organizations based on Universities further grow competition and increases rivalry among these institutions.

We look forward to seeing these Organizations compete in tournaments and we wish them all the best in their endeavours.

Be sure to follow us on our socials for more news and announcements regarding our planned phase of leagues and tournaments.

Tekken254 Circuit set to adopt a new competitive format for its 2020 schedule.

After a wild 2019 schedule, the Tekken254 Circuit will move into the 2020 schedule with a new competition system that seeks to grow the local competitive Fighting Game Community scene in Kenya.

Running for three seasons currently, the Circuit has seen immense growth in its player growth, competitive gameplay and as well as a rise of Esports organizations feeding into the circuit signing players (Article on Esports Organization-4th September). The Circuit has seen various changes that the organizers have made to help steer the local competitive scene forward and also make it easy for players to grow. The circuit moves into its fourth season in January 2020 and is set to have various changes.

TEKKEN254 CIRCUIT 2020 (UNIFICATION OF DIVISIONS)

The 2020 schedule will still be eight months series with qualifiers played monthly. The circuit major change will be the unification of both divisions (Premier Division & Challenger Division).

Season three saw a separation of vet players locked down to a premier division and a new division that sought to build and encourage new players to sign up was formed. The challenger division helped drive in 15 players who have played through the whole season and gained enough gameplay knowledge of the game.

Heading into our 2020 schedule, the circuit will have the divisions unified and a bigger player bracket per pool formed. Players will be playing using a bracket format for the 2020 schedule unlike in season three where players played in a round-robin system during pools stage.

THREE SEASONS IN, STRUCTURED COMPETITION SYSTEM, STRONG COMMUNITY

The Tekken254 Circuit Qualifiers comes to a curtain close as we head towards Qualifier 6 of this season series. Organized by Tekken-Two-Five-Four and Ace Pro Gaming, the circuit has seen a rise in competitors from 19 competitors to the current 32 registered players who have once attended the structured competitive tournaments held in Nairobi.

Started in 2017, we held a tournament in one of Nairobi's most visited Gaming Lounges (Tric Gaming) where we held our very first tournament. The Tekken254 has later grown into one of the most connected and growing communities filled with discipline and hard work amongst its members. The community is slowly cementing competitive system as one of the strongest in the region.

The Circuit was birthed immediately after the Tric Gaming Tournament and it is currently closing on its third season. More players trickling in the community and staying competitive with efforts to welcome more as we continue our work to strengthen Esports and Digital Entertainment in Kenya.
The Circuit adopted a new format that sought to increase community members, increase competition but most importantly level up Tekken knowledge within the community.

The system saw two divisions split between Premier Division (24 players) and Challenger Division (open entry) with a pro-rel system. The tournaments were also spread out monthly with 6 Qualifiers in the circuit. As we move into our final qualifier, we would like to thank the Tekken254 Community members for their bond, hard work, commitment, and great Tekken play.

THANK YOU
